Hey everyone,
I just got back from the Philippines.
And as strange as it sounds… I’m actually looking forward to getting some structure back in my life.
When I’m traveling or in “holiday mode,” life feels lighter.
Less routine.
Less schedule.
Less pressure.
But after a while, I start to feel something else too.
Drift.
It’s easy to confuse freedom with the absence of structure.
But real freedom isn’t chaos.
Real freedom is choosing your structure.
When I was in the Philippines, I enjoyed slowing down.
But I also noticed how easy it is to lose momentum when there’s no rhythm to your days.
No gym schedule.
No focused work blocks.
No clear goals being pushed forward.
That’s when I started appreciating something I’ve built quietly over the years.
Not just savings.
Not just investments.
But optionality.
Because while I was away, stepping back from work, my portfolio didn’t stop.
Dividends still came in.
Compounding didn’t pause.
My YouTube channels didn’t disappear.
That’s the difference between temporary escape and long-term freedom.
Freedom isn’t about running away from structure.
It’s about designing a life where structure supports you — instead of traps you.
Investing has given me something powerful:
The ability to step away without everything collapsing.
And that didn’t happen by accident.
It came from:
• Living below my means
• Taking advantage of geo-arbitrage
• Working abroad strategically
• Building income streams instead of just earning a paycheck
• Thinking in decades instead of months
When I first moved overseas, I wasn’t thinking about “financial freedom.”
I was just trying to build something stable.
But over time, stability turns into leverage.
And leverage turns into freedom.
Now I’m back.
Back to routine.
Back to lifting.
Back to focused work.
Back to building.
And oddly enough… that feels like freedom too.
Because I chose it.
The older I get, the more I realize:
Freedom isn’t doing nothing.
It’s having the ability to decide what you do next.
Talk soon,
John
